Deuteronomy 18:9-10
When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee,
thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or
his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination,
or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
2 Kings 21:3
For he built up again the high places which Hezekiah his father had
destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made a grove, as
did Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and
served them.
2 Kings 23:5
And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had
ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah,
and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned
incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets,
and to all the host of heaven.
Isaiah 47:13
Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the
astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up,
and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
Jeremiah 7:18
The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the
women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and
to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke
me to anger.
Jeremiah 8:2
And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the
host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and
after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom
they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried;
they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.
Jeremiah 10:2
Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not
dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at
them.
Jeremiah 44:17-19
But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own
mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out
drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our
kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets
of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well,
and saw no evil. But since we left off to burn incense to the queen
of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted
all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out
drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and
pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?
Daniel 1:20
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king
enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the
magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
Daniel 2:2
Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers,
and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his
dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
Daniel 2:10
The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man
upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is
no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician,
or astrologer, or Chaldean.
Daniel 2:27
Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret
which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers,
the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;
Daniel 4:7
Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the
soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make
known unto me the interpretation thereof.
Daniel 5:7-15
The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and
the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of
Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the
interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a
chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the
kingdom. Then came in all the king's wise men: but they could not
read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation
thereof. Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his
countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied. Now
the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came
into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live
for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance
be changed: There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit
of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and
understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in
him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy
father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and
soothsayers; Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and
understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard
sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel,
whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he
will shew the interpretation. Then was Daniel brought in before the
king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that
Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom
the king my father brought out of Jewry? I have even heard of thee,
that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and
understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee. And now the
wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that
they should read this writing, and make known unto me the
interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation
of the thing:
Matthew 2:1-2
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod
the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen
his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
