Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife,
neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his
manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing
that is thy neighbour's.
2 Samuel 13:1-20
And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son
of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son
of David loved her. And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar;
for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any
thing to her. But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah
David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man. And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king's son, lean
from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I
love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister. And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make
thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him,
I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress
the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand. So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was
come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my
sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may
eat at her hand. Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother
Amnon's house, and dress him meat. So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down.
And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and
did bake the cakes. And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused
to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out
every man from him. And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that
I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had
made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of
her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister. And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no
such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly. And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee,
thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray
thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee. Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger
than she, forced her, and lay with her. Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he
hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And
Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone. And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me
away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would
not hearken unto her. Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said,
Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her. And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such
robes were the king's daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then
his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her. And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers
colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on
crying. And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother
been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy
brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her
brother Absalom's house.
Job 21:22-26
Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those
that are high. One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with

Luke 11:33-36
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a
secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that
they which come in may see the light. The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is
single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is
evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not
darkness. If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part
dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining
of a candle doth give thee light.
Luke 12:13-21

brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over
you? And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for
a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he
possesseth. And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain
rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I
have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build
greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for
many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be
required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast
provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich
toward God.
Romans 1:28-32
And even as they did not like to retain God in their
knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those
things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness,
covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit,
malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors
of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural
affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such
things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure

1 Corinthians 5:9-11
I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with
fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with
the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye
needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man
that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an
idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such
an one no not to eat.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit

destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they
are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are
come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he
fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:
but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above
that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to
escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 12:29-31

interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a
more excellent way.
2 Corinthians 9:5-8
Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the
brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand
your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be
ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness. But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also
sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also
bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give;
not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye,
always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every
good work:
Ephesians 5:3-5
But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness,
let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are
not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor
covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the
kingdom of Christ and of God.
Philippians 4:11-13
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have
learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every
where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be
hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Colossians 3:5-6
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the
earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil
concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of
disobedience:
1 Timothy 3:1-3
This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a
bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife,
vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to
teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but
patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

And having food and raiment let us be therewith

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be
