the bitter in soul; Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than
for hid treasures; Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the
grave? Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath
hedged in? For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured
out like the waters. For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that
which I was afraid of is come unto me. I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet
trouble came.
Job 4:17-21
Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more
pure than his maker? Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he
charged with folly: How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose
foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth? They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever
without any regarding it. Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die,
even without wisdom.
Job 7:9-10
As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that
goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place
know him any more.

And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take
away my iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt

Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of

keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint
me a set time, and remember me! If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed

stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh

What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the

that be cursed of him shall be cut off.
Psalms 37:28-29
For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his
saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked
shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the
end of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the
wicked shall be cut off.

O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go

and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and
their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he
shall receive me. Selah. Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his
house is increased; For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall
not descend after him. Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise
thee, when thou doest well to thyself. He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never
see light. Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts
that perish.
Psalms 52:5
God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take
thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee

The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD'S: but the
earth hath he given to the children of men. The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into
silence. But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.

Ecclesiastes 9:3-6
This is an evil among all things that are done
under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart
of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart
while they live, and after that they go to the dead. For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a
living dog is better than a dead lion. For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any
thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them
is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now
perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing
that is done under the sun.

grave, whither thou goest.

trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he
die. Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house
of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and
committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he
hath done shall he die. Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that
he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he
shall save his soul alive. Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his
transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he
shall not die.

from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood
will I require at the watchman's hand. So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house
of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn
them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die;
if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked
man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine
hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it;
if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but
thou hast delivered thy soul.
Daniel 12:1-3
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great
prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there
shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a
nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be
delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting
contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the
firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for
ever and ever.

suffer me first to go and bury my father. But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their

he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that
were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha
cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the
age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great
astonishment. And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and
commanded that something should be given her to eat.
Mark 8:34-38
And when he had called the people unto him with his
disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let
him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever
shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall

which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness

condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came
upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by
the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But
where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign
through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:3-10
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into
Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like
as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father,
even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death,
we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the
body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve
sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live
with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more;
death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth,
he liveth unto God.
Romans 6:16
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants
to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto
death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken
your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live
after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through
the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of
God.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17

alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward
they that are Christ's at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom
to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and
all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all
things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which
did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son
also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that
God may be all in all. Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the
dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? And why stand we in jeopardy every hour? I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our
Lord, I die daily. If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus,
what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink;
for to morrow we die.
1 Corinthians 15:35-56
But some man will say, How are the dead raised
up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it
die: And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall
be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every
seed his own body. All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh
of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of
birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the
glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is
another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and
another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star
in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in
corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in
weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There
is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul;
the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is
natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord
from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is
the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear
the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the
kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we
shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for
the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible,
and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal
must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this
mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass
the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
2 Corinthians 1:9-10
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves,
that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the
dead: Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom
we trust that he will yet deliver us;
2 Corinthians 2:15-16
For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in
them that are saved, and in them that perish: To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the
other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these
things?
2 Corinthians 5:1-5
For we know that if our earthly house of this
tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not
made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with
our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not
for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality
might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who
also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
Ephesians 2:1-8
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses
and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this
world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit
that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the
lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the
mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he
loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with
Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in
heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his
grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and
arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
But I would not have you to be ignorant,
brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even
as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them
also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which
are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent
them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with
the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead
in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together
with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall
we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
1 Thessalonians 5:9-10
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to
obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live
together with him.
2 Thessalonians 1:7-9
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when
the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and
that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some
men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing
that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Revelation 1:18
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am
alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Revelation 2:7-11
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit
saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat
of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things
saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive; I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art
rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and
are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the
devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and
ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and
I will give thee a crown of life. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the
churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Revelation 11:15-18
And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great
voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the
kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever
and ever. And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their
seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and
wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great
power, and hast reigned. And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time
of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest
give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and
them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them
which destroy the earth.
Revelation 14:13
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me,
Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth:
Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and
their works do follow them.
Revelation 20:12-15
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before
God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which
is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things
which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell
delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every
man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the
second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast
into the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:7-8
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I
will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and
murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all
liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and
brimstone: which is the second death.
