Exodus 22:22-24
Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. If thou afflict
them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear
their cry; And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the
sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
Deuteronomy 10:17-19
For the Lord your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great
God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor
taketh reward: He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and
widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. Love
ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of
Egypt.
Deuteronomy 14:23-29
And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he
shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy
wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy
flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always. And
if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry
it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the Lord thy God
shall choose to set his name there, when the Lord thy God hath
blessed thee: Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the
money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy
God shall choose: And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever
thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for
strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt
eat there before the Lord thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and
thine household, And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou
shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with
thee. At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe
of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy
gates: And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with
thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which
are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied;
that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand
which thou doest.
Deuteronomy 24:19-22
When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a
sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be
for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the
Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands. When
thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs
again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the
widow. When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt
not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the
fatherless, and for the widow. And thou shalt remember that thou
wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do
this thing.
Deuteronomy 26:12-13
When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine
increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast
given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the
widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled; Then thou
shalt say before the Lord thy God, I have brought away the hallowed
things out of mine house, and also have given them unto the
Levite, and unto the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow,
according to all thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I
have not transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten
them:
Deuteronomy 27:19
Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger,
fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Job 29:11-17
When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw
me, it gave witness to me: Because I delivered the poor that
cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. The
blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused
the widow's heart to sing for joy. I put on righteousness, and it
clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem. I was eyes to
the blind, and feet was I to the lame. I was a father to the
poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out. And I brake
the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
Job 31:16-23
If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the
eyes of the widow to fail; Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and
the fatherless hath not eaten thereof; (For from my youth he was
brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from
my mother's womb;) If I have seen any perish for want of clothing,
or any poor without covering; If his loins have not blessed me, and
if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; If I have
lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the
gate: Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm
be broken from the bone. For destruction from God was a terror
to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.
Isaiah 1:17-19
Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the
fatherless, plead for the widow. Come now, and let us reason
together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall
be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be
as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the
land:
Isaiah 1:23
Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one
loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the
fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
Isaiah 10:1-2
Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write
grievousness which they have prescribed; To turn aside the needy
from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my
people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the
fatherless!
Jeremiah 7:6-7
If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and
shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods
to your hurt: Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the
land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.
Jeremiah 22:3
Thus saith the Lord; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and
deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no
wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the
widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.
Jeremiah 22:5
But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the
Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.
Zechariah 7:8-11
And the word of the Lord came unto Zechariah, saying, Thus speaketh
the Lord of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and
compassions every man to his brother: And oppress not the widow, nor
the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you
imagine evil against his brother in your heart. But they refused to
hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that
they should not hear.
Romans 12:11-13
Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in
prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to
hospitality.
James 1:26-27
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his
tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To
visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep
himself unspotted from the world.
